Over the last three years, I’ve avoided pubs as much as possible. When I have gone out with friends, I usually cry off early, citing a headache. And I never go without my partner. I’ve tried a few exercises, joined a gym (went three times) and even managed to attend a club meeting once. I used…

faceless worker?

I’m in work until 1pm, hence the mild tumblr silence!
Had the most heart breaking shift yesterday in work, sometimes I think mental health carers, carers in general, auxiliaries and nurses are the forgotten workforce.
Our job is both physically and mentally draining, our pay does not reflect this. If you work in private health care, you are just a number to the system you are working in.
There is barely any emotional support for the people who break their backs day in and day out caring, in my case, for people with extremely complex needs, making sure they are looked after physically, emotionally and spiritually. We as a workforce are all but forgotten, we are not offered the services of a councillor if we find a person we have cared for dead or the aftermath or self harm, we are not the concern if our day has been spent calming a highly anxious and sometimes physically, and most of the time verbally violent client.
We do this job for barely above minimum wage. What do i get back for this? A wage that I cannot get mortgage on, a wage that I cannot afford to go on holidays on, a wage that does not even begin to cover the emotional distress that we go through, a wage that does not compensate me in any way when I go he covered in bruises after being assaulted by a client, a wage that doesn’t allow me to save for a wedding, a wage that would barely take care of myself let alone any children i may choose to have. Oh and on top of that I have no option for a pension in work but my wage is that low I cannot afford to take a private one, so after a life of hard grafting I will be entitled to all but a state pension.
Something has got to change, and I for one cannot wait for the government to start these changes.
